Preparation for the Health Professions

Introduction:

The undergraduate educational requirements for health-related professions differ from field to field.  While a degree in biology is not a requirement for acceptance into most health-related educational institutions, we do recommend it.

All biology majors are given an academic advisor upon entering the university.  If, at the end of the freshmen year, the student has maintained a 3.00 GPA, and is still interested in the health professions, he or she will be transferred to one of our health professions advisors (Dr. Peter Schneible, OFM or Dr. Donna Brestensky).

All biochemistry and non-biology majors interested in pursuing a career in a health-related field should contact one of the health professions advisors as soon as possible.

Minimum Requirements

The minimum requirements for most health-related educational institutions are as follows:

Note: The courses listed are just the bare minimum.  Some schools will require other courses in addition to those mentioned above. The specific courses required will vary from institution to institution.  If you would like the specific information, talk to Dr. Peter Schneible, OFM of the Biology Dept or Dr. Donna Brestensky of the Chemistry Dept.
