Finding Library Materials: The Friedsam Retrieval of Information and Resources (FRIAR) Online Catalog is used to determine the location of books and media resources at Friedsam Memorial Library. To login type mpac in lower case letters. Click here for complete instructions. FRIAR may also be used to find out whether a periodical is owned by the library.


Finding Periodicals/Journals: Print periodicals at Friedsam Memorial Library are alphabetical by title.  Most periodicals must be checked out at the periodical window.  Hours for the periodical collection window are 8:00 A.M. - 11:00 P.M.

Periodical Indexes and Abstracts: to locate periodical/journal articles, use the following indexes and/or abstracts (listed alphabetically):

Communication Abstracts - P90 .C6, Index Unit 5, Main Level; 1978+; use to locate more scholarly material in the area of communication, journalism, and  mass communication in 100 journals and 30-40 books each year.

EbscoHost (login id and password required) - indexing and some full-text for basic journals in many disciplines, including journalism and mass communication; St. Bonaventure University staff, faculty, and students must obtain id and password from the reference librarian.

Health Reference Center - indexing and some full-text for health, nutrition, and fitness articles for the consumer.

Index to Journals in Communication Studies Through 1995 - P87 .M35 1997, Index Unit 5, Main Level; edited by Ronald J. Matlon and Sylvia P. Ortiz, tables of contents and indexing for scholarly articles in journals representing communication, journalism, mass communication, and speech.

Gale Directory of Publications and Broadcast Media - Ref PN4867 .G34, Main Level; multivolume directory of newspapers, magazines, journals, radio stations, television stations, and cable systems.

Working Press of the Nation - Ref PN4875 .W6, Main Level; directory information for newspapers, magazines, television, and radio in the United States.

The Writer's Market - Ref PN161 .W83, Main Level, latest copy is on Reserve (ask at the Circulation Desk; annual publication on how to sell what you write.
