Biology courses were first offered in 1900 when St. Bonaventure was still a college.  The Biology Department started in 1926 as part of the science school at St. Bonaventure.  James A. McLaughlin was the first Biology Department chairman.

The Biology Department went through some hard times and some very successful times.  Lynch Hall catching fire in 1933 was an example of a low time in the department, but then De La Roche rose from its ashes.  A Ph.D. Program was initiated at St. Bonaventure in 1951.  In 1979 the graduate school committee reconsidered the Ph.D. program and it was phased out in the early 1980s.  In 2008, the William F. Walsh Science Center opened.

This site reviews some of the important dates in the history of the biology program and many of its distinguished faculty members and their contributions.
