Subject: Written while Merton was was teaching English classes at St. Bonaventure College.
Provenance: Merton had sent this journal to Mark Van Doren when he was preparing to enter the Trappist Order in December of 1941. Van Doren sent it to Fr. Thomas Plassmann in January of 1944.
