Transfer Students and Transfer Credits

Students who have earned a cumulative GPA of 2.5 (out of 4.0) or above at their previous institution(s) will be reviewed for admission and admitted to the institution when the Office of Admissions is satisfied that the applicant has presented all criteria for admission, and credit granted for all previous coursework in which they have received a passing grade. For students with below a 2.5 cumulative GPA in previous course work, admissions decisions, and the granting of transfer credit for any courses in which they have received a grade below “C,” will be based upon the review and recommendation of the transfer coordinator and dean of the School to which they have applied. Established GPA criteria for students seeking admission to the School of Education will continue to be applied as in the past.

Based on the assumption that they will have already completed the foundations of a liberal arts and sciences based education, students who transfer in after having satisfactorily earned an Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) degree or the equivalent from an accredited institution will be considered to have satisfied the requirements of CLAR 102, 102L, 103, 105, 106, 108, and 109. Two, 3-credit introductory writing courses at least at the 100 level will be accepted for CLAR 110 and 111. To the extent that any of these courses are also a part of major program cognate requirements, the equivalency for that purpose will be subject to review by the School transfer coordinator. Students will be required to complete CLAR 101, 104, 107, and 401 at St. Bonaventure. Students who have not completed a 4-four credit science course will be required to complete CLAR 102 and CLAR 102L or any other 4-credit lab science course.

Students who have not earned an AA or AS degree or the equivalent from an accredited institution will be granted transfer credit as follows:
