EDUC 500 Resources

Professor:  Dr. G. Gibbs
Librarian:  Ann M. Tenglund [e-mail: ateng@sbu.edu ; phone: 375-2378]
Date of library session:  Tuesday, August 26, 2008

Finding Books and Other Materials in the Library

  • Use FRIAR, our online catalog.

    • FRIAR contains records for print and other items that are physically owned by the library.

    • Electronic journals can be found by using the journal locator.

    • Be sure to write down the color code for the item--consult the signs or use the arrows on the main staircase to find the right floor where your item is.

Finding Articles

Finding Dissertations

  • Use the "Publication Type" limiter in ERIC (choose "Dissertations/Theses: All" for best results)

  • Open access dissertations/theses (full text, online, for free!): http://www.proquest.com/products_umi/dissertations/pqdt.shtml

  • Google Scholar also includes a limited number of dissertations and theses.

  • Dr. Gibbs recommends looking at a few dissertations to see how educational research is organized and presented.

  Citing What You Use

  • Use Noodletools to help you format citations in your research paper.
  • Need help understanding what a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is? Find out more here!
