CURRICULUM CENTER

The Curriculum Center supports undergraduate and graduate education majors, as well as teachers in the area. It is located in the lower level of the library, near the RED stack area. It is open whenever the library is open. In-person assistance is available from the reference librarians at any time, or from Curriculum Center staff during the day. You can also contact the Curriculum Center via email anytime with questions or comments. You will receive a reply within 24 hours.

The Curriculum Center's collection includes:

  • Software Lending Library-click here for a title listing
  • Textbooks in all subject areas for grades K-12, including teacher's manuals and other resources.
  • Children's and young adult book collections, both fiction and non-fiction. The library has an extensive collection of Newbery and Caldecott Award and Honor books.
  • New York State Curriculum Guides
  • Online Subject Guide to Web sites

Curriculum Center material circulates for fourteen days for all patrons, including graduate students and faculty. This is to ensure the availability of the materials for other users since this collection is in high demand.

All of the material in the Curriculum Center is represented on FRIAR, the online catalog. You may wish to begin your search for Curriculum Center material with FRIAR--this is the easiest way to determine if the library has a particular title, and if the title is available or checked out.

The stacks in the Curriculum Center are arranged for easy browsing, so you may also find it beneficial to simply look around the area to find ideas. Textbooks are on the wooden shelves around the perimeter of the Curriculum Center area and are arranged by subjects that are clearly marked with signs. You'll also see signs for the Caldecott and Newbery collections, as well as the Canadian children's literature section (these materials have a "PZ" call number and are shelved in their own area in the center). The classified books are found on the metal shelves. The classification system is the same as that used in the rest of the library (Library of Congress classification). You'll find general educational material (tests, methods, teacher idea books, unit plans, etc.) in the L section. Also useful are the PN-PS sections, where children's fiction (other than award winners) is kept, and the Q section, which houses non-fiction works about science for children.

Curriculum Center staff members are:

    • Roberta Mahar, M.S., a retired elementary teacher who holds NYS certification for elementary education (N-6) and reading (N-12)
    • Jennifer Marron '06, an education major
    • Ann Tenglund, M.L.S., M.S. Ed., Coordinator of Library Computer Services, Bibliographic Instruction and Curriculum Center, holds NYS certification for elementary education (N-6), business education (7-12), and reading (N-12)

If you have any comments about the Curriculum Center, or suggestions for additional services, please email Ann M. Tenglund , Coordinator of Library Computer Services and Curriculum Center, or call 375-2378.
