Julia Hanby
|
 |
Hello! I’m Julia Hanby. I am from Findley Lake, NY and
I have just completed my first year at Carnegie Mellon University in
Pittsburgh, PA. I recently declared a major in Ethics, History, and
Public Policy, and I will soon declare an additional major in either
Global Studies or Hispanic Studies. Ultimately, I am pursuing a career
in the field of International Development. Community service and
appreciation for other cultures has been integral in my high school and
college experience. I served as a volunteer mentor for a high-risk
student in high school, as well as a volunteer tutor in elementary and
middle school classrooms. In the fall, I plan to continue my passion for
mentoring by working for Urban Youth Action as a tutor for Pittsburgh’s
inner-city students. I am a regular volunteer at Ten Thousand Villages,
an international non-profit organization and fair trade store. I am also
a member of FORGE (Facilitating Opportunities for Refugee Growth and
Empowerment), an organization that has has given me the opportunity to
help refugees in the Pittsburgh area and form stronger bridges between
cultures. By participating in the ITD program as a peer mentor, I look
forward to continuing my interest and passion for inter-cultural
experiences and helping others appreciate the richness of US society. |
