MATHCOUNTS Chautauqua/Cattaraugus Regional Contest
The 2006 MATHCOUNTS Regional Contest
The 2006 MATHCOUNTS Regional Contest was held Saturday, February 4. Four middle schools
competed: Allegany-Limestone (coach Kathy Stamets), Falconer Central (coach Becky Anderson),
Salamanca (coach Diane Dietrich), and Tapestry Charter from Buffalo (coach Carol
Vago).
The organizers of the competition were impressed by the students' passion and talent for mathematics.
The contest was financially supported by St. Bonaventure
University and two anonymous grants.
Photographs
of the teams, prior to doing battle, appear below, followed by photos taken
during the competition.
In the individual competition, Miriam Harms of Falconer Central placed
first, Collin Everett of Falconer Central placed second, and Natalie Burns of
Falconer Central placed third. In the team competition, Falconer Central
(Natalie Burns, Collin Everett, Miriam Harms, and Scott Wilson) took first,
Allegany-Limestone (Peter Clarke, Joey Groele, Chad Monkhouse, and Ricky
Trietley) took second, and Tapestry Charter (Max Barnhart, Zachery Bliss, Andrew
McGuire, and Nicholas Sam) took third.
The top three teams have been invited to the New York State competition, which will be held
March 18 at the Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute in Troy. At the national MATHCOUNTS competition, to be held May
11–14 in Arlington, Virginia,
the top "mathletes" from the state contests compete individually.
