Class Scheduling and Contact Hours:

Faculty are required to adhere to the class schedules and meeting times published by the Registrar. All regularly scheduled classes and tutorial classes must meet New York State and University contact hour requirements. For each undergraduate or graduate credit the professor must meet with the class or tutorial student for fifteen academic hours (50 minutes). Academic work by students that is normally done outside the classroom (research, homework, etc.) does not qualify for contact time. Any changes to published class schedules, meeting days, or locations must be approved by the faculty member’s department chair and the appropriate dean. It is the responsibility of the faculty member seeking approval to change class time or location to consult the Registrar regarding room and time availability before requesting any change. Faculty should also consider factors such as fairness for all students and overall instructional quality prior to making any request to change class times or locations. (September 1996)
