As a University in the Franciscan tradition, St. Bonaventure University recognizes that to fulfill its Mission there is a need to maintain a significant Franciscan presence among its faculty, staff, and professional administrators. While that presence is largely to be measured in terms of quality rather than sheer numbers, one of the University's objectives is to maintain and increase this significant Franciscan presence by active recruitment.
St. Bonaventure University will continue to articulate its Franciscan Tradition and to integrate it into all elements in the life of the University community.
The following represents those elements which are essential to the nature of St. Bonaventure University as a University in the Franciscan Tradition:
Promote St. Bonaventure University's Franciscan identity and ideals while addressing all questions that affect the academic community in a collegial and respectful way.
Foster educational efforts regarding the Franciscan Tradition to the University community and the larger community.
Develop curricula which reflect the nature of the Franciscan Tradition and its development at St. Bonaventure University.
Help students translate their knowledge of Franciscan values into action by celebrating diversity and by responding to the needs of others.
Identify the need for personal involvement in actively living out the Franciscan values of community service and the promotion of volunteer ministry programs.
Pursue actively the recruitment of qualified Franciscan religious men and women as faculty and staff at St. Bonaventure University.
Maintain the presence of the Franciscan Tradition in residence life.
