5.  Research Specialization and interest (past and present)

Areas include social communications of food aversions,

     sociobiological components of transferred food

     aversion, sensory-sensory associations, drug

     dependent learning, biological- genetic components

of learning. More recent:  How Television influences

cognitive pacing and how history of TV viewing

interacts with several behavioral indices. Television Dependence. Collegiate

Internet Dependence  I have explored the relationship between classroom

disruptive behavior, fear of adulthood, and high and

low television usage.  Recently published and article on How

Most recently I have been exploring the variables that influence

television dependence such as negative mood state (loneliness,

anxiety), passive spillover  and dependence, and classically conditioned

cues that predict television  exposure. Have concentrated latest research

efforts on Internet Dependence and collegiate entanglements.

6.  Sabbaticals (1st-1978-1979).  Spent at Memorial

University, St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, conducting

research sponsored by Dr. S.H. Revusky's Research Grants.

While on sabbatical, I worked on a project which involved

trying to modify the food choices of Island Lynxes in relation to predating

upon Caribou calves. My second sabbatical reflected my change in research

interest and I spent a year(1987-1988).working in the television

laboratory of John Condry at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. Research focused

on international television and the effect of transborder flow

of mass communication. Next sabbatical was spent with Robert Kubey (Spring, 1998) at Rutgers

University conducting research concerning Television and Internet Dependence in Collegiate

 populations. see http://web.sbu.edu/psychology/lavin/

9)  Current research interest: Television dependence and variables associated with dependence  The role of leaning in the formulation of television dependence. Paper in preparation to be submitted to Communication Research. In addition, most recent interest focus on Internet entanglement and dependence in collegiate populations. Currently we are exploring personality characteristics associated with collegiate Internet dependence such as sensation seeking and loneliness. And most recently I have been exploring the relationship between Internet Dependence and Loneliness in Collegiate Populations.
